Mountain Bike the Tetons (MBT) is a local non-profit whose mission is to build a vibrant, healthy community by enhancing the outstanding mountain biking resources in the Teton Region. MBT’s focus is on building and maintaining trails, advocating for the mountain bike user group, and creating community through mountain bike events and educational programs.

Throughout the summer, MBT offers a variety of mountain bike focused events including the five mountain bike races in the Teton Dirt Series, various coed and ladies group rides, and a number of volunteer trail work days in Teton Valley. MBT also has developed two mountain bike summer program options for kids: Sprockids and MBT Summer Camps.

The Sprockids program started in Teton Valley in 2018, and expanded into Jackson in 2019. Sprockids is an eight week summer program that runs one night a week for kids aged 6-8 and 9-11 years old. The Sprockids curriculum focuses on safety, trail etiquette, bike handling skills, and fun!

Each week the kids get introduced to a new concept or skill and practice it while riding on some of the amazing beginner trails in the Tetons. The kids are taught by local mountain bike coaches and are joined by some amazing parent volunteers that help during the group rides. The goal is for kids to complete the eight sessions feeling more confident on a bike and having developed a deeper appreciation for both the trails and the outdoors.

In Jackson, the Sprockids get the opportunity to ride at the Blair Dr pump track, Lower Wilson Canyon, Game Creek, Cache Creek and on the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort cross-country and downhill trails at the bike park. The wide variety of location exposes the kids to different trail grades and features, and gives them an appreciation for all that our area has to offer.

It’s no surprise that the last two weeks of the program are their favorite. JHMR supports Sprockids with lift tickets to ride the JHMR Bike Park trails and the kids love every second of it…I mean who wants to ride uphill when you can just go down, right?!

Here’s what our coaches, parents and kids had to say about the riding at JHMR!

“I love having access to the bike park because the trails are made really wide with perfect transitions between jumps and turns. This is great for the kids to learn more technical downhill biking in a positive, safe environment. They always say ‘it feels like we are on a roller coaster with our bikes.’” - Jackson Sprockids Head Coach, Bailey Pugh

“The bike park is an amazing resource for the kids because they can ride a bunch of laps in a short amount of time. At this age, miles on bikes are so important for improvement, so being able to get many laps on all kinds of trails is huge.” - Jackson Sprockids Assistant Coach, Hailey Gilmore

“Mountain biking is one of the few activities you can physically do with your children. Rather than just driving them to the rink and watching, at Sprockids, you can actually participate with your children and experience the excitement of mountain biking right along with them.” - Sprockids Parent

“I really like riding at Jackson Hole because you don’t have to worry about hitting a hiker coming  up the trail.” - Al,  7 years old

“It’s the best bike park!” - Cat, 8 years old

“It’s only downhill! It’s so good! - Oliver, 10 years old

“All the trails are amazing and super fun!” - Savannah, 8 years old

“I love the bike park because I don’t have to climb up any hills!” - Connel, 8 years old
