Gary Endecott

Born and raised in Wyoming, Gary took up skiing in high school. Part of the Teton Adaptive Team Gary fell in love with the sport, and Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. Learning to ski at JHMR has prepared Gary to represent Wyoming this winter at the World Winter Games, a huge honor for Gary. The Special Olympics global competition is taking place March 14 -25th, 2017 throughout Austria, and Gary will be training at JHMR, in the gym and at the National Winter Games in Vermont this December.

Q: Snow is falling in the Tetons and the buzz around Jackson is surrounding snow predictions for this winter. What is the Gary Endecott prediction? Are we going to have another winter to remember in Jackson Hole?

A:  Jackson Hole is going remember the 2018 winter season!   I Think Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is going get 600 inches of snowfall this year.

Q: Tell us about the World Winter Games in Austria last winter. How did you do? What was skiing in Austria like?

A: I competed in the super G and the slalom alpine events at the world winter games in Austria. I got 4th place in the super G and 5th place in the slalom race.  When I got to Austria it was all green grass, there was no snow on the ground. The only place there was snow was up high in the mountains. The snow on the ski mountain was slushy in the afternoons but in the morning it was icy.

Q: A lot of training must have taken place before you went to the World Games. Can you fill us on how you prepared to compete at such a high level?

A: To prepare, I went skiing every weekend at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and I went to the gym every Tuesday and Thursday and worked with a personal trainer, Terry.

Q: After such a successful season last winter, what are your plans for the upcoming season?

A:  For this upcoming winter, I am hoping to give back to Jackson Hole Mountain Resort by volunteering or working with Teton Adaptive Sports.  I want to learn more about snowboarding and continue working on my skiing so I can hopefully go back to the World Winter Games.  I will continue to work at The liquor Store and will be volunteering at Moose Hockey games.

Things to include:
I would like to thank everyone that helped me get to World winter games including my staff at Community Entry Services, my employers and coworkers at TLS, Crazy Tom, Teton Adaptive and everyone at JHMR and everyone that donated to my World Olympic games fund.  I’m excited for this upcoming winter!!
