Before we talk about what it is, I need to first address what it was: not great.

Ok, ok, ok, calm down, yes it was still skiing….*how lucky are we*, yeah yeah yeah. BUT how can I be expected to report on mountain conditions if I can't honestly report the (relative) lows with the highs? Like any good ski day, I require a little contrast to see where I’m going. Despite a slow start to December, the Holiday Season storm provided sweet relief to powder-starved skiers and riders.

Yesterday was exceptional. I would call it a Christmas miracle but I think it might be an overstatement to call a return to normal weather patterns a miracle….December 25th of this year was a much-needed, very nice day (downright joyous, actually).

And I’ll attribute that exuberance to a change in the weather.

To the friends who I saw and hugged, you made yesterday excellent as well. But how many times did we see each other on Apres Vous last week and talk about the forecast? Making the best with what was provided, transported from the present moment by the promise of better days ahead. Well, the promised days have come. Thank goodness (thank someone–it's fun!). Because try as we might to be the masters of our own experience, life is better in Jackson when it snows.

And now THE STATS (for those that like numbers):

  • 44 inches of new snow in the bowl since December 23rd.
  • 4 consecutive days with over 8 inches of snow in 24 hours.
  • 3rd biggest Christmas week storm in history (date range of Dec 22-27).
  • Rendezvous Bowl is 7% above average for snowfall season to date.
