The thrill of competition often finds its way into unexpected arenas, and what could be more unexpected than a hot dog eating competition atop a mountain in Jackson, Wyoming? Picture this: the crisp cold mountain air, snow-capped vistas, and the aroma of Bear Dogs wafting through the winter breeze. This was the scene of the recent Bear Dog Eating Competition, where participants faced off against each other in a gastronomic showdown.

The challenge? Consume as many Bear Dogs as possible within 12 minutes. But what exactly are Bear Dogs, you might ask? Think of them as the quintessential ski hill snack: hearty bovine & swine sausage nestled within a warm, toasted bun. It’s the kind of comfort food that fuels both body and soul during a day on the slopes.

Competitors from far and wide gathered at the base of the Sublette lift, by the Bear Flats Snack Shack, their eyes gleaming with determination and perhaps a touch of apprehension. The rules were simple: no cheating, no regurgitation, and above all, no holding back.

As the countdown began, anticipation hung thick in the air. Skiers paused mid-run to watch the spectacle unfold, while spectators cheered from the sidelines, their voices echoing against the mountainside. Contestants attacked their Bear Dogs with fervor, and devoured each savory bite. Some employed strategic techniques, while others relied on sheer speed and gut determination. In the end, it was a battle of stamina and willpower.

The female champion, Kristen McClennan emerged triumphant, having consumed an impressive four Bear Dogs. Her victory was a testament to both her appetite and her perseverance in the face of fierce competition. Not to be outdone, the male winner, Jason Menden claimed the title by devouring an astonishing seven Bear Dogs, solidifying his status as a force to be reckoned with in this world of competitive eating.

As the competition concluded the vibes, and people sored high into the sky off the large park jump JHMR Park and Pipe built specially for the event. Blue bird days, a little airtime, made for one of those perfect Jackson ski days.

Until next year….
