March 16-22 - Dr. Huckinstuff's weekly recap:
Well, the sun was certainly stoked to get its springtime groove on this week. With the crossing of the Vernal equinox on Tuesday, it should've come as no surprise that our local star would take to the main stage and steal the show. But no matter what, Spring always seems to show up too quick. I guess because time flies when you're out getting sick! Seriously though. Every season it's the same story when we get our first real taste of spring. After the initial sunshine shockwave wears off, you notice that the warm weather has a way of making people's most interesting inner kook come out. Bright colors start flying alongside frisky ski stylings, as the extraordinary intensity of play gets everyone smiling. Some magical mixture of mid-winter ski strength and a sneaking sense of the season's dwindling days, creates a powerful elixir that puts a little extra pep in our solar powered souls. The sun softened hits have some people tossing outlandish tricks while others chase down corduroy perfection to get their adrenal kicks. The techniques are many and varied but regardless of method employed, everyone agrees days like these are easily enjoyed. Those not interested in pushing around the sweet corn popping on the slopes had the option to feed their need for speed this week, as Jackson Hole Mountain Resort played host to the annual Town Downhill. Jetting from the top of the Teton lift, racers and spectators alike reveled in the communal comradery of finding their own ultimate terminal velocity. Live music sessions in multiple locals around the Village solidified the springtime vibe and will continue through the remainder of the year, as we enter an event filled run towards The Rendezvous Music Festival. It was a party vibe indeed this week, but as Friday comes to a close you can feel a subtle change is in the air. A promisingly unsettled atmosphere is starting to form up in the extended forecast. So, relax if another trip in the whiteroom is what you're hoping to see, because Wyoming won't let go of Winter quite that easily. -Lege
5-Day MountainWeather Forecast
Last weekend through mid-week, skiers and riders took full advantage of sunlit slushy slopes and prime spring skiing conditions. That first bout of spring skiing tends to feel pretty incredible after months of cold and often-snowy weather. A nice break from the norm is all it was though, as a new storm cycle lies ahead and stretches through next weekend.
