Pioneers (ages 3-4)

A Parents' Guide to Pioneer Group Lessons

How do I know my child is ready?
If your child is 3 years old, toilet-trained (can communicate toilet needs) and excited to ski or snowboard, we will provide them an amazing experience.

Do I need reservations?
Yes, Pioneer lessons have limited inventory and require reservations. Please reserve online or by calling 307-732-3134.

How should I dress my child?
Start with a thin layer next to the skin - long johns or thermals. Layer according to the weather with fleece tops and pants as insulation on colder days. Bring a hat and helmet, neck warmer and waterproof mittens. Don't forget ski goggles or sunglasses. Finally, a proper face covering. Use only one pair of socks, preferably ski socks as they keep kids' feet drier and warmer. Apply sunscreen.

What do I need to do prior to check-in?
We have implemented an online check-in process for our Mountain Sports School guests called JH Arrival.  We ask that everyone log in and complete the necessary waivers from their own device.  This will save time and eliminate crowding when your child arrives for their lesson. Please click here to access JH Arrival and complete your waivers.

How do I check in for my child’s lesson?
Pioneer lessons meet in the front lobby of the Kids Ranch. Check-in for morning Pioneer lessons begins at 9:00am. We highly recommend picking up your JCards and rentals before your child’s first day of lessons. The Kids Ranch sales desk and Jackson Hole Sports Jr. are open daily until 4:30pm, with next day rentals available after 2pm.

Once you have secured your child’s JCard and rentals, you will be directed to the Pioneer check-in, which is located inside the Kids Ranch lobby. Only Kids Ranch staff and children attending lessons will have access to the facility beyond the lobby. We will take anything you need to store for the day; street clothes, extra layers, etc, to the cubby room. Please arrive at check-in with your child dressed for the day with their ski/snowboard boots on.
At check-in, we will scan your child's J Card and provide you with any additional information you may need. Please notify staff at check-in of any special needs or allergies.

What is the schedule for the day?
After a trip to the bathroom and water fountain, we head out skiing. One or more breaks per lesson may be taken, depending on the Pioneers' age, energy level and weather. Pick up is in the backyard of the Kids Ranch at the yellow Pioneers flag. During pick-up at 3pm, you will have an opportunity to speak with your child's instructor. Lunch, snacks, hot cocoa and cold drinks are all provided.

What should I do if my child is feeling sick?
