Teton Village is 12 miles northwest of the Town of Jackson and at the foot of the Teton Mountain Range. During the summer, Teton Village is the perfect oasis for those visiting the National Parks with Teton Village bordering Grand Teton National Park and it is a mere fifty miles to Yellowstone National Park from Teton Village.
Driving and Parking in Jackson Hole in the Summer
Do I Need a Car?
If you are staying in Teton Village, you will inevitably travel to downtown Jackson to shop and dine. If you are staying in town, you will need transportation to and from Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. Both types of trips can be taken on the public bus system - START (Southern Teton Area Rapid Transit) Bus. A cheap and efficient way to travel around the valley, a one-way trip from downtown Jackson to Teton Village costs $3 per person.
Things to Know
If you decide to rent a car, you should know:
- The town of Jackson provides free parking, but does not allow parking overnight.
- Wildlife is very active around the roads.
- Check with your hotel to see if there is free parking at the hotel. Some hotels do charge an extra fee for parking.
- The valley is flat, so unless you are planning a trip to Grand Targhee Resort over Teton Pass, it is not necessary to rent a 4WD vehicle. Discuss your itinerary with the rental car company.
Moose-Wilson Road Closure
The southern portion of Moose-Wilson Road is under construction between the Granite Canyon Entrance and the Laurance S. Rockefeller Preserve. The road is open to through traffic, seven days a week, with possible 20-minute delays.
Granite Canyon Trailhead is closed summer and fall 2023. The trail network is accessible from Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.
Access to the Laurance S. Rockefeller Preserve and Death Canyon Trailhead is available from the north, via Moose, WY.
Travel from the town of Jackson to Jackson Hole Mountain Resort will not be impacted.
Parking in Teton Village
During the summer months, parking in all Teton Village lots is free of charge. RV parking is available in the Ranch Lot and Stilson Lot (no overnight parking allowed).
Public Transportation
We have ample public transportation to and from the village and a shuttle service that runs between the Ranch Lot and the base of the mountain from 6:30am - 6pm (no shuttle service from 12:45pm - 1:45pm).
Free EV Charging
The Ranch and Village lots each have two designated parking spots equipped with electric vehicle charging stations that are FREE to use.
