March 2-8 - Dr. Huckinstuff's weekly recap:
Well, what can I say after the week we just had? I feel a little bad, but no fancy prose or sneaky rhyme could do justice to that magical time. Saturday came in with one of the largest overnight accumulations I've seen in over 30 years here in the Hole. 30 inches came in on the heels of another 30 that had fallen during the previous 4 days, and it just continued through the day! Despite the efforts of our world-class ski patrol and mountain operations crew the inundation proved to be more than we could handle. With all but the lowest lifts closed for the day, most skiers resorted to a day of recuperation and preparation for the inevitable mental shock in store from the restocked mountainside. Sunday came with even more pow but accompanying heavy winds and warm temperatures made for tricky traveling with deep stiff slabs set up mountain wide. It was the type of stuff that skis better after a few tracks have cut it up, and a salivating army of able sliders got straight to work. The following days saw the snow stacking higher and higher, with another 17-inch wallop on Wednesday. Skiers' levels of stoke were sent skyrocketing into the stratosphere as non-stop stacking of snow buried the funky Saturday slab and cooler temperatures transformed the surface into a diaper of deep stellar crystals. By Thursday morning the snowfall was coming to an end and soft sunlight spots were breaking out. It had been a whirlwind 10 day stretch of wild weather, that delivered nearly 100" to Rendezvous Bowl. As you may imagine, another round of big air antics was soon witnessed as local bombardiers pelted heavily primed LZ's from lofty heights. The popping of the blue skies also allowed for some overdue high alpine exploration outside the resort boundaries. With a triple digit base depths in place and improving avalanche conditions the sky is no longer the limit, your imagination is. Heading towards the weekend we're having in a bit of a break from the madness but have no fear there will be no shortage of radness. March may have come in like a lion, but that doesn't condemn it to leave like a lamb. The next round of powfall looks to be brewing on the horizon for the start of next week. So, soak in the sunbeams while you can and enjoy the weekend warmth, but don't get lulled into full spring skiing mindset yet. Instead keep your fingers crossed for another double-deep reset from Saratoga to Sublette. -Lege

February 2024 Recap
February stirred the depths of my soul as Rendezvous Mountain unfolded before me as a time machine that transported me back to the previous winter — a season that etched itself into the tapestry of my memories like a vivid dream and into the history books as the snowiest winter on record. February provided a sensation that was more than a mere return to a powder paradise; it was a liberation of the spirit, a dance with gravity and nature, an expression of love from above.
