Mammut Backcountry Camps
In 1998, we were one of the first ski areas to open its boundaries, allowing skiers and snowboarders to explore adjacent backcountry terrain without worrying about having their passes pulled. Even though it’s now the rare resort that has closed boundaries, we continue to be a pioneer in backcountry access through our 2- to 4-day backcountry camps. Presented in partnership with Mammut, a Swiss company recognized for its innovative backcountry safety gear, these camps feature our best mountain guides teaching topics from route selection to snowpack evaluation, backcountry travel best practices, and backcountry equipment. Your “classroom” for these camps? Some of the country’s most epic and expansive backcountry terrain. No prior backcountry experience is required for these camps, but you must be able to comfortably ski varying conditions off-piste.
Camps do not include lift access. Explore our lift ticket and season pass options.

$785
The backcountry is calling. Ensure you’re ready to go by joining our mountain guides for this new-for-23/24 2-day camp geared towards experienced backcountry travelers who want to refresh their skills before the start of the season. You’ll have the opportunity to review and practice beacon searches and companion rescue techniques and discuss decision-making for safer travel in the backcountry. Depending on conditions, this camp might be in the JHMR backcountry or on Teton Pass. About 7 miles south of JHMR, Teton Pass is considered one of the best and most accessible backcountry skiing zones in the country, has terrain that’s reliably snow-covered by December, and requires touring gear for access.

Mammut Women's Beyond the Boundaries Backcountry Camp
February 1-2, 2025
Advanced - Expert Skiers & Snowboarders without Backcountry Experience, age 18+
$985
So you want to explore the backcountry, but aren’t sure where to start? Start with our new-for-23/24 Beyond the Boundaries camp. Over two days, our top female alpine guides will introduce you to backcountry gear (and how to use it), terminology, and the basics of safely traveling in avalanche terrain. By the end of camp, you will be more comfortable using backcountry gear—don’t worry, climbing skins take everyone a while to figure out—exploring the backcountry, and contributing to your group’s conversations about safety and terrain selection while you’re out there. This camp is not meant to be a replacement for an Avalanche Level 1 course, which is something we recommend all skiers getting into backcountry skiing take.

Mammut Corn Harvest Camp
March 14-16, 2025
Advanced - Expert Skiers & Snowboarders, age 18+
$1,470
Finish your backcountry season with a bang with this new 3-day camp that takes advantage of spring’s longer days and higher snowpack stability—think bigger tours and steeper objectives. And, if Mother Nature allows, you’ll get to ski corn, which some skiers say is better than powder (we love both equally). Our east-facing exposure means our corn ripens early. Or maybe there will be a giant March storm and you’ll get three days of powder skiing. Corn or powder, you’ll be out in the JHMR backcountry with one of our experienced mountain guides, challenging yourself and skiing terrain most people only see in ski movies.
