Originally developed in the Italian Dolomites as a means of moving troops through the mountains during World War I, Via Ferrata has since evolved into a thrilling adventure sport enjoyed by outdoor enthusiasts worldwide. The concept involves a series of steel cables, iron rungs, ladders, and bridges strategically fixed to rock faces, enabling climbers to traverse and climb with confidence. Via Ferrata routes offer a unique blend of hiking and rock climbing, combining the thrill of vertical ascents with breathtaking views and a sense of adventure. HOW TO

When embarking on the Jackson Hole Via Ferrata, climbers are outfitted with a harness, helmet, and approach shoes. Groups are accompanied by an experienced guide who provides instruction and coaching (and takes all the best photos). Along the routes, climbers attach themselves to the metal cables using a system of carabiners and lanyards, known as a Via Ferrata set. As climbers progress on the route, they use a combination of iron rungs, steps, and natural holds on the rock to ascend.
